ELECTIONS 2.0 UPDATE
The BBC is reporting today that Barack Obama has made a clean sweep in the most recent US election primaries to become the democratic candidate. I thought it might be interesting to see if the post I wrote a while back, ‘Elections 2.0‘ on the role of the web in the elections supports some of the outcomes of the recent votes. Here’s a few screen grabs from the Techpresident site which show how the battle between Clinton and Obama is panning out as of this morning.
The last screengrab here shows how much web traffic each presidential campaign website is getting each week, as a percentage of the total number of visits made to that group of websites in the previous week.
Although these stats should be taken more as a signpost than a definitive indicator it is interesting that Obama’s online campaign is significantly outperforming Clintons in line with the most recent primaries. The BBC also reported that ‘Analysts suggested the most significant aspect of Mr Obama’s success was his broadening appeal across different demographic groups‘ – a good indicator that Obama has been able to engage a much wider spread of society across the states than Clinton. Interesting stuff!
