GEEK ALERT!

So today sees the launch of the much anticipated iPhone. A quick walk to the Apple store this morning was a clear example that Apples great advertising had again done its job – a line of customers 7 hours before the phone launched (at 6:02 pm according to the signage!) is very impressive for any product.
Not being particularly good at waiting for new things though Sukhi and I have already both invested in the LG Viewty (see vid below). I have to say i’m very impressed with LG’s supposed ‘iphone killer’. HSDPA as opposed to wi-fi does seem to make a lot more sense when you think of the practicality of high speed ‘anywhere’ access on a mobile. Similarly it’s 5mp camera (rather than 2!?) and integration with Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube makes the phone a genuinely good blogging/snapping/browsing tool. Given Google’s monopoly on free to use browser apps in conventional web space it seems more likely than ever that mobile operators will need to quickly ‘buddy up’ with Google this coming year to offer these services on mobiles. Rumblings of the ‘Google Phone’ seem to be a clear indicator that Google wants to own our communications from end to end. Personally I think that the integration of Gmail, youTube and the like will prove to be the trump card for mobile users in coming months. It’s certainly ticking the boxes for me!
